Lightroom Import setups and basic steps

Workflow TO IMPORT FILES 

(see below if this is the first time you are importing)

  1. Click Library module > Import
  2. Go to Import Preset, and click on Copy Memory Card to Photographs_MASTER by YYYYMMDD-Fiename
  3. Under Source, Select your drive/device from which you wish to import images
  4. Check Include Subfolders
  5. Check or uncheck All Photos in the top center area, and select images if and as needed
  6. Double check that your destination, in upper right area is your hard drive/PHOTOGRAPHY/photographs_MASTER
  7. Click Import in lower right area

For First Time Imports with a Pre-formatted Drive from Pradip Malde

Double click the alias file at top level of your external hard droive ending in .lrcat e.g. CatherineEstes_LR_catalogue.lrcat

Click Import in lower left area

*go to very bottom of the window, in center area, in tab called Import Preset, and click on Copy Memory Card to Photographs_MASTER by YYYYMMDD-Fiename

*You may see a message:

The destination folder “/Volumes/STUDIO_STARTUP/LR DRIVE SETUP 233/PHOTOGRAPHY/Photographs_MASTER” is not available. Using “Pictures” folder instead.

Click OK

In left column, under Select a source  > Source

Select your drive/device from which you wish to import images

(If you do not see your drive, then click ‘Source’)

(( If you still do not see your drive, click on  Select a source > Other Source… and navigate to and select your source drive/device))

Check Include Subfolders

In top center panel, select Copy

In top right are, click the black encircled arrow or the area to its right.

In drop down window, click Other Destination…

Navigate to your external hard drive/PHOTOGRAPHY/Photographs_MASTER and select only that folder, then click Choose

Go back to very bottom of the window, in center area, in tab called Import Preset, and click on Copy Memory Card to Photographs_MASTER by YYYYMMDD-Fiename, move mouse down to Update Preset Copy Memory Card to Photographs_MASTER by YYYYMMDD-Fiename” and click it

Then, check or uncheck All Photos in the top center area, and select images if and as needed.

Check that your destination, indicated in top right area, displays some portion of the full address, which should begin with your hard drive name, and end with PHOTOGRAPHY/photographs_MASTER

Finally, click Import in lower right area
