Class meetings are on Mondays, from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM in Nabit 103 unless otherwise noted. Additional mandatory meetings for presentations and gallery events are also noted below.

Mon-03.04 – MIDSEMESTER:

  • 3:30 PM Class visit/presentation by Mandy Villalobos


  • DUE MIDTERM THESIS PAPERS, noon, emailed to faculty.
  • Papers should include:
    • 10 pages of written analysis, maximum
    • 2 page minimum introduction, including a thesis statement.
    • Supporting paragraphs that investigate form + content of thesis works
    • References/Inspirations integrated into analysis
    • Conclusion paragraph(s)
    • Footnotes/Citations as necessary
    • A page of thumbnail images, arranged chronologically, with title, date, media, dimensions, at the end of the paper. Identify works made as a part of a class assignment (state the class).

9:00 AM, begin install Ivey Dahlstrom Honors exhibition

  • Due: Final Poster Design. Printed on campus
  • Brainstorm workshop/thesis exploration
  • Thesis writing workshop- bring two printed-out copies of latest version of thesis (at least one should be single-sided), scratch paper, scissors and colored, writing utensils (highlighters, colored pencils/pens) to class.

  • Final checklist of works you will be showing WITH PRICES, assembled, formatted labels due, including your name, title of work, date, medium. (Prices will go on price list in binder). Final artist’s statements, resumes and biographies. Assembled in one document, consistent formatting. Due to Dr. MacLaren prior to the start of class.
  • Review and critique of art works

Friday, April 12 — 9:00 AM, take down Barton Perkins Honors Exhibition


  • Delivery of Art work to the UAG at 1:30 PM – all work must be ready to transport before the start of class, transport arrangements to be made by each exhibitor
  • Final presentation run-through
  • Discussion of references in your papers
  • Discussion of introductions
  • Discussion of conclusions

Tuesday, April 16 – 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, UAG install

Wednesday, April 17 – 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, UAG install

Thursday, April 18 – 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, UAG install; all works installed by 10 AM; – lighting begins by 10 AM; Labels go up; install completed by 4:30 PM;  – final clean up and check by 5:00 PM

  • SR Exhibition Open to the Public, 4:30 PM – UAG Opening Reception, with introductory talks by each major (about 1-2 minutes each)


  • Comps Defenses, 9:00 AM Violet,  9:40 AM Brianna, University Art
  • Class — Final Presentation Review, meet at UAG


  • 8:00 AM Projection check for presentations, Convocation Hall

Tuesday, April 30 – 7-9 PM, drinks at the Sewanee Inn with Art Minors, Majors, and Art History Majors and Department faculty

  • UAG Staffed by Art SR volunteers


  • Baccalaureate reception in gallery, 1-3 pm. Please be at the UAG as promptly as possible, so that the faculty may say a few words of farewell soon after 1 PM


  • Show comes down 2 to 3 PM. Please be at the UAG at 2 PM, promptly. YOU MUST TAKE ALL YOUR WORK WITH YOU, remove hardware, clear walls and floors, clean up. Pradip will be present.
